Repeat in to out alternating...
Keep repeating the steps until you run out of hair to pick up.  When you do, just continue the rest as a regular braid.  You can secure the ends by braiding the last three centimeters or so very tightly, or with rubber bands.  You can even add beads to it if you like.  Have fun with it.
